Apple has responded to the antitrust lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice against the company and five publishers.
Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr told AllThingsD,
"The DOJ's accusation of collusion against Apple is simply not true. The launch of the iBookstore in 2010 fostered innovation and competition, breaking Amazon's monopolistic grip on the publishing industry. Since then customers have benefited from eBooks that are more interactive and engaging. Just as we've allowed developers to set prices on the App Store, publishers set prices on the iBookstore."
Legal experts have commented on the case stating that Apple is likely to be victorious; however, publishers may have a more difficult time.

"...the antitrust laws have had the same basic objective: to protect the process of competition for the benefit of consumers, making sure there are strong incentives for businesses to operate efficiently, keep prices down, and keep quality up"

Collusion and price fixing is 100% all of the time, that being said this is not a win of the consumer either.

100% bullshit. Apple did manipulate the market and had publishers' contribution. Exactly the same way they did with music.
This site should be ashamed of itself by trying to protect a selfish and greedy action in wich no one else but the customers are affected.
SHAME IN YOU APPLE.

And amazon didn't create monopoly? Publisher would sell books to amazon for $12 yet amazon would sell for $9.99!
