Amazon has reportedly ordered 2 million redesigned Kindle Fires for release in early August, according to the China Times.
The new Kindle Fire is said to have a metal frame with a plastic chassis. (Sounds like an iPhone 3G.) The original Kindle Fire was a clunky piece of hardware that was reportedly picked off a shelf. It looked exactly like the BlackBerry Playbook. Amazon's plan to release a redesigned Kindle Fire less than a year after the original makes sense. It has to protect its turf.
Google has just unveiled its rival to the Kindle Fire dubbed the Nexus 7 and the rumor mill has Apple releasing an iPad mini in October.

I say good for them. They've found a small nitch in the competitive tablet market which covers the low end. I'd rather see them do well than see the iPad dumbed down!
