Samsung Presents Evidence to Prove Apple Stole Pinch-to-Zoom [Video]

Samsung is attempting to prove to jurors that Apple stole the technology for its patents and has presented the Mitsubishi 'Diamond Touch' as evidence, reports BGR. The company says it can't be guilty of copying a technology that was stolen in the first place.

Dubbed "Diamond Touch," Samsung's legal team presented a massive touchscreen table built by Mitsubishi to the jury in an effort to show that Apple's patent on pinch-to-zoom technology should not be valid because it already existed for years before the first iPhone launched. What's more, Samsung suggested that Apple knowingly stole the technology when its witness, Mitsubishi engineer Adam Bogue, testified that he showed the Diamond Touch to Apple engineers back in 2003.

The Diamond Touch uses a projector and a large multi-touch surface to let users draw and perform other tasks. Notably, it features the pinch-to-zoom functionality that iOS users are familiar with. Since the device existed when Apple was granted its pinch-to-zoom patent, Samsung is arguing that the patent should be considered invalid.

I just found out that if you sign up for a 2 yr contract with ur server you will only pay $159.00 efor an iphone 5 BUT.... You need to also take a data plan to add to it. Now this is where it gets bad..... Before all you had to do was cancel the data plan right away and pay a $200.00 penalty sp fpr $359.00 you were able to get a iphone with only a coice plan Now they changed it. Now if you cancel the data plan it will cost you the total months penalty which is oner $475.00. I guess nothing stays the same in life.

Definitely no pinch to zoom, just expanding of a window. Samsung are clutching at straws.

There's no pinch to zoom in this video. It is almost a pinch to enlarge windows but it's based on a double mouse technique that enlarge the window from 2 angles at the same time and, moreover, this pinch uses the internal Microsoft Windows APIs to manage the windows size. Samsung is pathetic.

I think that Samsung has a weak argument, but it shows that our patent law needs to rewritten. Pinch to Touch is a nice innovation, but it doesn't qualify as an "invention". It's an idea, pure, simple and not worthy of a patent

OMFG!!! That's not pinch to zoom and unzoom, that's taking 2 corners and stretching or expanding a window!!! Nowhere near the same. I'm no fanboy but that's bull. I hope the judge reads my comment and fail Samsung.
