A leaked image claims to show the back plate for the iPad 5. The image was sent to 9to5Mac by a purported China-based accessory maker.
While we cannot confirm that the above image is legitimate, it does provide a solid representation of what Apple’s next iPad will likely look like. We were told this is a prototype back piece for the fifth-generation iPad with a 9.7-inch display. We were also told that the casing is almost as thin as the iPad mini’s back (pictured to the right). As you can see at the top of the purported iPad 5 backplate, this casing would likely be for an LTE model – as the black antenna cut implies…
The leak falls in line with a recent report that Apple is working on an iPad 5 with a similar design to the iPad mini for release in October.

I use iPhone from first generation to its 5th one and I'm still using iphone but few days back I spent two hours playing with samsung galaxy noteII and I loved it. its more fun to use it than iPhone to be honest. I think apple need major changes to its smart phone. its good to expand app store and its app but they need to look at their customer demands from smart phone which is changing as mine already did.

That, my friend, would be called a new SIZE, not a new design. A new design would be round with square corners ;)

I'm looking forward to the jailbreak being released soon! I'm still not sure if I should upgrade my iPhone 4S and iPad 3 from iOS 5.1.1 because I don't see anything special enough to upgrade to 6.1, and Apple will likely release 6.1.1 to block the jailbreak soon. Restoring back to 6.1.0 can be a problem on iOS 6. Most jailbreak tweaks don't work on iOS 6 yet anyway.

That's one of many reasons why Apple and others don't make jailbreaking easy. People should use tweaks but avoid pirated apps. It's not worth it for 99 cents. I support jailbreaking, but not piracy.

So what will the difference be between the iPad 5 and the iPad 4 other than the back plate?

Probably a new processor, camera, and since it's going to be thinner it will probably have a IGZO display. which is said to have a better picture quality and lower power consumption. So it won't get as hot as the current iPads.

This really isn't surprising. It's almost February and they have a new design for the iPad Mini, iPhone and iPod's... Would only expect a new iPad.

Not a new design. This design is the same as the iPod touch 5th generation design.

It is a new design because the iPad now isn't like that. It's not the same size as the iPod Touch or iPad Mini.

Obviously the size isn't the same, but the size does not matter. If the design has been done already then it's an old design. The iPad 5 is basically getting the 5G design. Some innovation from Apple. They're doing the same thing like they did with the 4s and 5.
