Samsung has confirmed that it will unveil a 'Galaxy Gear' smartwatch on September 4th, reports the Korea Times.

The smartwatch will debut at the IFA consumer electronics fair in Berlin, Germany. Samsung Executive Vice President of Mobile, Lee Young-hee, said the device will utilize a "non-flexible display".

“We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on Sept. 4,” Lee said. “The Gear won’t have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry.”

When asked about flexible displays, Lee said, “We have intellectual properties for patents related to the next wearable devices. Those are concepts for future products.”

Lee also confirmed that the Galaxy Note 3 will make its debut at the fair.

“Samsung opened a new smart mobile device category back in 2011 with the introduction of the first Galaxy Note. Since then, smartphones with large screens have been a mainstream trend. As the creator of this category, we will introduce our customers to enhanced key features on our Galaxy Note devices.”

Finally, Lee indicated that the company had no interest in acquiring BlackBerry.

“Samsung Electronics is not considering that opportunity,” she said without elaborating.

More information on the watch…it is said to come with an innovative wrist strap that acts as a blood pressure monitor! Every day at fixed times, it will inflate and read your blood pressure…the history is stored in the watch. You can view the readings very clearly on the vibrant high resolution 4.3 inch screen. The other innovative feature is that the wrist strap can be extended to fit on your upper arm or even more to fit around your forehead, chest or waist. This allows the watch to be worn differently for various purposes. For example, the bright screen can act as a head lamp when worn on the forehead, on your chest for when you want to look like Iron Man and on your waist as a belt with various buckle images available during launch.
