Apple has updated its available Mac Pro configurations dropping the price of the 6-core model by $1000. The company also dropped the cost of various upgrade options.

Previously, Apple offered a base quad core model with 12GB of RAM and dual AMD FirePro D300 GPUs for $2999 and a high-end 6-core model with 16GB of RAM and dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs for $3999. That 6-core model is now the base model Mac Pro with a new price of $2999. The high-end spot has been filled by a 8-core model with 16GB of RAM and dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs for $3999.

Upgrade pricing has also been reduced. For example, it used to cost $1500 and $3000 to upgrade from the 6-core to the 8-core and 12-core, respectively. However, it now costs $800 and $2000, respectively. GPU upgrade pricing has also been reduced.

Despite the price drops, we'd strongly suggest that if at all possible customers wait until Apple launches its revamped Mac Pro, hopefully next year.
