GM has revealed plans to connect the Chevy Volt to portable handheld devices such as the Blackberry and iPhone, according to GM-Volt.com.
The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle to be produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors and expected to be launched in November 2010 as a 2011 model. For up to the first 40 miles, the Volt is powered by electricity stored in its on-board lithium-ion batteries which are charged by an electrical power outlet. The Volt's 16 kWh (8.0 kWh usable) lithium-ion battery pack can be fully charged by plugging the car into a standard residential electrical outlet using the provided charging cord. Brent Dewar, recently "retired" VP of Chevrolet showed a few slides at the LA Auto Show last week; one of which revealed GMs intention to develop mobile phone applications for controlling and interacting with the Volt.
GM sources have indicated to GM-Volt that there will be applications for at least the iPod and the Blackberry. These applications could possibly let you know such as information as when charging is complete and if you forgot to plug the car in etc
