Apple Releases macOS Tahoe 26.6, Plus Security Updates for Older Macs [Download]

Apple has officially released macOS Tahoe 26.6 to the public, delivering a maintenance update that prepares the Mac for the transition to macOS 27 this fall. The company also rolled out macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.8 to provide critical security patches for older machines.



According to Apple's release notes, macOS Tahoe 26.6 includes bug fixes, security updates, and optimizes the Spotlight index to ready the system for macOS 27. The final version carries a new build number compared to the Release Candidate seeded to developers last week, suggesting Apple patched a late-stage issue just before the broader rollout.


The concurrent release of macOS 15.7.8 and 14.8.8 ensures that users who have not yet upgraded to Tahoe, or whose hardware does not support it, remain protected against recently discovered vulnerabilities. These desktop updates arrive alongside today's public launch of iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6.
