McDonald's will soon offer free wireless Internet at around 11,000 of its domestic locations, reports the WSJ.

The company is hoping to transform itself from an in and out fast food location into a hang out destination.

Thanks to a partnership with AT&T, McDonald's will drop the $2.95 fee that it had charged customers for two hours of WiFi, McDonald's USA Chief Information Officer David Grooms said in an interview.

The fast food chain hopes this will keep customers around longer and perhaps cause them to buy some of the McCafe line of coffee drinks while surfing the net.

McDonald's also has plans to begin selling items like frappes and smoothies by mid-2010.
