CBS and Disney are considering participating in Apple's plan to offer television subscriptions over the Internet, reports the WSJ.
According to people familiar with the matter, Apple wants to offer access to some TV shows from major television networks for a monthly fee.
If Apple is able to sign on enough networks it could change how we watch television and shift the balance of power away from the big cable companies.
A spokesman for DirecTV said, "It's difficult to gauge how competitive they will be without seeing the packaging, presentation and execution."
The WSJ suggests this strategy is part of Apple's plan to overhaul the iTunes Store as it gets ready for a new tablet device, which is meant to be a multimedia gadget.
Sources say Apple is aiming to launch the tablet by the end of March.
