Apple supplier Luxshare has been charged with stealing commercial secrets from Catcher, another Apple supplier.

Reuters reports that Taiwanese prosecutors have charged fourteen people after a year-and-a-half long investigation. Recently, Taiwan has stepped up efforts to stop Chinese firms from stealing trade secrets and poaching away key talent.

Luxshare purportedly targeted Taiwanese competitor Catcher Technology "in order to quickly enter the Apple production chain to win orders".

Luxshare "lured" Catcher's China based research and development team with promises of high salaries and stole business secrets from the Taiwanese firm, causing them big losses, the prosecutors said in a statement. Luxshare was doing this in order to be able to "quickly build factories and mass produce cases for iPhones, iPads and other products", the statement said.

"The department will do its best to investigate such cases to maintain the sound development of our country's enterprises and ensure the competitiveness of national industries," said authorities.

Luxshare Precision Industry is building a massive new iPhone assembly plant in China to rival Foxconn and Pegatron. The sprawling site -- covering an area the size of 40 football fields -- is expected to churn out millions of iPhones as early as this year.

Catcher makes iPhone and iPad cases for Apple and is cooperating with the investigation.
