Apple's next generation iPhone 14 Pro will feature an improved ultra-wide camera, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The ultra-wide camera is said to have larger pixels which provide offer low light performance and reduced noise.
I predict two iPhone 14 Pro models' ultra-wide cameras will upgrade to 1.4µm (vs. iPhone 13 Pro's 1.0µm). CIS (CMOS image sensor), VCM (voice coil motor), and CCM (compact camera module) have a significant unit price increase in this upgrade, with about 70%, 45%, and 40%.
Kuo believes that Sony, Largan, and LG will benefit from the camera upgrade.
Other components' price increases are limited. Sony (CIS), Minebea (first VCM supplier), Largan (second supplier), and LG Innotek (CCM) are the significant beneficiaries of the ultra-wide camera upgrade.
Kuo has also predicted that the iPhone 14 Pro will get a new 48MP wide camera that can record 8K video and create videos and images "more suitable for AR/MR devices". He's also said that the smartphone could support both 48MP and 12MP output, perhaps using pixel binning.
