Apple has officially released iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1, the first significant update to its new mobile operating systems. The software arrives after several weeks of developer and public beta testing that followed the major launch of iOS 26 in September.
The update brings a number of new customization options and refinements. In Settings, users can now choose between a transparent "Clear" look or a more opaque "Tinted" option for the system's 'Liquid Glass' interface. It is also now possible to disable the Lock Screen's swipe-left gesture for opening the Camera app. The Clock app gets a notable change, with a new "slide to stop" control replacing the large stop button for alarms and timers to prevent accidental taps.
Several apps also see updates. The Apple Music app now lets users swipe on the music player to switch songs. iOS 26.1 also updates the Apple TV app icon with a more colorful design, reflecting the company's recent streaming service rebranding.
Language support expands significantly in this update. As first spotted in the beta, Apple Intelligence is now available in eight additional languages, including Danish, Dutch, and Portuguese. The AirPods Live Translation feature also gains support for five new languages, including Italian, Japanese, and Korean.
Finally, a new toggle under Privacy & Security for "Background Security Improvements" revamps the prior Rapid Security Responses feature, allowing Apple to automatically install critical security patches between full iOS updates.
