Apple has shared a new behind-the-scenes featurette for F1 The Movie, offering a look at the intense production process at the Silverstone circuit. The video was released following the film's global streaming debut on Apple TV earlier this month.
The featurette highlights the "military precision" required to film during a live race weekend. In the clip, director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer talk about the tight constraints of shooting live, where they had to capture scenes in front of 120,000 fans without interfering with the main event. Producer and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton focused on keeping things authentic, highlighting just how much work went into slotting a fictional eleventh team right into the actual Grand Prix lineup.
Brad Pitt leads the cast as Sonny Hayes, a retired driver lured back to the track to mentor a young rookie played by Damson Idris. The story sees Hayes recruited by a struggling team owner, portrayed by Javier Bardem, to help turn their season around. To achieve a realistic look, the production filmed on-track during actual Grand Prix weekends throughout the season.
The film is a central piece of Apple's broader push into the sport. The company secured a major deal to become the exclusive U.S. home for Formula 1 starting with the 2026 season. Exclusive coverage is set to begin on March 7, building on the momentum of the film which grossed over $630 million at the global box office.
