Satechi is expanding its dock lineup with the Thunderbolt 5 CubeDock with SSD Enclosure. Announced for CES 2026, the hub is built to take advantage of the massive bandwidth available in the latest high-performance machines, combining expansion ports and high-speed storage in a compact aluminum chassis.
Built on Intel's Thunderbolt 5 standard, the CubeDock doubles the data throughput of the previous generation, offering up to 120Gbps of bandwidth. That added capacity is most noticeable when driving demanding display setups. For owners of the new M5 MacBook Pro, the dock supports dual 6K monitors at 60Hz. Windows systems can push even further, with support for up to three 8K displays, while macOS users benefit from a straightforward plug-and-play experience that does not rely on DisplayLink drivers.
The most interesting design choice is the integrated storage slot hidden beneath the top cover. It houses an M.2 PCIe NVMe interface that supports SSDs up to 8TB. Because the drive connects directly to the Thunderbolt bus, transfer speeds can reach up to 6,000 MB/s, fast enough for video editors to work directly from the drive rather than treating it as backup-only storage. To avoid the thermal throttling common in compact enclosures, Satechi added active cooling with a variable-speed fan that only ramps up when needed.
Power delivery is equally well thought out. The CubeDock ships with a dedicated 180W power supply and can pass through up to 140W to the host laptop. That is sufficient to fast-charge Apple's 14-inch and 16-inch notebooks while still reserving 30W for connected accessories. In addition to three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, the dock includes a 2.5Gb Ethernet port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and UHS-II SD and microSD card readers.
Additional connectivity comes via two USB-A ports and two USB-C data ports, all rated for 10Gbps transfers. Despite the broad port selection, Satechi managed to keep the design compact, with a square footprint measuring just five inches on each side.
The Thunderbolt 5 CubeDock with SSD Enclosure is priced at $399.99. Pre-orders are open now, with shipments expected to begin in late March. Satechi is also offering a launch promotion, taking 20% off with the code CES2026.
