X-Plane 12 is officially making its way to the Apple Vision Pro. The popular flight simulator will leverage NVIDIA CloudXR 6.0 to stream high-fidelity, immersive environments directly to the headset from PC and cloud-based RTX systems.
The integration relies on the upcoming release of visionOS 26.4, which Apple is currently testing with developers. Once the software rolls out later this spring, X-Plane will launch a dedicated companion app on the App Store. Opening the app will allow the simulator to automatically detect the headset over a local network and begin streaming the cockpit view wirelessly to the user.
To make the experience functional for flight simulation enthusiasts, the software uses ARKit image detection to track cockpit positions. This allows pilots to merge their physical flight-sim hardware with the digital cockpit. The setup also takes advantage of privacy-preserving foveated streaming. By dynamically adjusting to network conditions, CloudXR prioritizes image quality and frame rates while keeping gaze data fully protected on the device.
X-Plane 12 is available on Mac, Windows, and Linux for $59.99. The necessary visionOS update is slated for a public release later this spring, bringing CloudXR capabilities to Apple Vision Pro through the new companion app on the App Store.
