Preorders for Apple's second-generation AirPods Max are now live. Customers can reserve the updated over-ear headphones through Amazon and Apple's online store ahead of their upcoming release.
Apple introduced the new headphones earlier this month, replacing the H1 chip with the newer H2 processor. The upgrade enables several new computational audio features. Active Noise Cancellation is now up to 1.5 times more effective at blocking low-frequency noise, while Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness automatically adjust volume and transparency based on your surroundings.
The move to the H2 chip also brings Apple Intelligence into the mix. Pressing and holding the listening mode button activates a Live Translation feature that translates spoken languages in real time using Apple Intelligence. On the hardware side, the headphones continue to use a USB-C connector. When connected using the included USB-C cable, the headphones support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio playback.
Physically, the headphones retain the same aluminum ear cups, knit-mesh canopy, and custom textile cushions. Battery life also remains unchanged at up to 20 hours of listening or movie watching with Active Noise Cancellation and Personalized Spatial Audio enabled.
