Apple has released a day-one firmware update for the AirPods Max 2 just ahead of their official retail launch. The new software brings the headphones to firmware version 8E251.
Apple unveiled the second-generation AirPods Max earlier this month, bringing the H2 headphone chip to its premium over-ear lineup for the first time. The upgraded silicon enables several new computational audio capabilities, including Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and Voice Isolation. The hardware also gains support for Live Translation and other intelligent audio features. This initial firmware update likely optimizes these functions for early buyers.
There is no manual switch to force a firmware update on Apple's audio accessories. The software installs automatically in the background when the headphones are connected to power and sitting within Bluetooth range of a paired iPhone, iPad, or Mac that has an active Wi-Fi connection.
If you are still weighing an upgrade, you can review our breakdown of the AirPods Max 2 vs AirPods Max to see exactly what changed between the two generations. The new headphones are currently available to pre-order on Amazon and will begin arriving to customers soon.
