David Pogue's comprehensive new history book covering Apple's five-decade journey is currently seeing a steep discount on Amazon. The 608-page hardcover, titled "Apple: The First 50 Years," has dropped to $34.09, offering a 32 percent savings off its regular $50 list price.
Published by Simon & Schuster, the book became available earlier this month just as the tech giant is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Pogue draws on fresh interviews with over 150 key figures to trace the company's evolution from its founding on April 1, 1976, through its transformation into one of the world's most valuable corporations. Those interviewed include Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, former design chief Jony Ive, former CEO John Sculley, and numerous current engineers and executives.
The narrative aims to correct the historical record and dispel several long-held myths surrounding the hardware maker. Pogue's research clarifies that Apple did not actually start in a garage, Steve Jobs was not the company's first CEO, and John Sculley did not fire Jobs. It also details how the Newton ultimately helped save the company and explores the backstage dynamics behind massive successes like the iPod and iPhone, alongside instructive missteps like the Lisa and MobileMe.
