Apple is dropping subtle hints about the future of its artificial intelligence platform ahead of its annual developer conference. The recently released teaser artwork for WWDC26 appears to point to a major overhaul of Siri expected to headline iOS 27 later this year.

Historically, the company uses event invitations to signal major announcements, even if the clues only make sense in hindsight. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the glowing colors and dark background of this year's teaser reflect the new interface Apple is testing for its digital assistant. When WWDC26 kicks off on June 8, the company is expected to unveil a redesigned Siri experience that shifts away from its traditional voice-first model toward a more conversational, chatbot-style interface.

The updated software is expected to include a standalone Siri app and tighter integration with the Dynamic Island. In internal testing, activating the assistant expands the pill-shaped cutout to display a "Search or Ask" prompt alongside a glowing cursor. The phrasing hints at a broader shift beyond voice, positioning Siri as a more flexible entry point for both queries and system-wide search. The perimeter of the Dynamic Island lights up with Siri's signature colors, an effect mirrored in the WWDC artwork and subtly echoed in the glowing outline of the "26" logo. Gurman notes the visuals are most noticeable in dark mode, aligning with the black backdrop of the event invitation.

Beyond the visual changes, iOS 27 is expected to bring more meaningful upgrades to how Siri works. Apple is working on letting the assistant handle multiple commands within a single request, so users won't need to break things up step by step. It's also being designed to better understand what's on your screen and draw from personal data when responding, a set of capabilities that Apple previously previewed but has yet to fully ship.

To expand its reach, Apple is also planning to open Siri to third-party AI agents, giving users a way to pass certain queries off to specialized services when needed. The approach suggests Apple is building a system that can tap into external models when appropriate, rather than relying solely on its own.

While artificial intelligence is expected to be the centerpiece of iOS 27, Apple isn't just focusing on new features. The company is also putting work into making the system run smoother overall, with improvements to speed, stability, and battery life. At the same time, there are additional features in development aimed at enterprise, education, and emerging markets.
