Google briefly highlighted its artificial intelligence partnership with Apple during the Google Cloud Next '26 opening keynote, confirming its role as the iPhone maker's preferred cloud provider for developing the next generation of Apple Foundation Models.
During the presentation, Google executives said the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be "based on Gemini technology" and will help power future Apple Intelligence features. This includes a more personalized version of Siri slated to arrive later this year. The brief mention marks one of the first public acknowledgments of the partnership following Apple's earlier move to select Google Gemini as part of its broader AI strategy overhaul.
Apple has been working to transition its digital assistant into a more conversational, chatbot-style interface for iOS 27. While Apple will continue to use its own Private Cloud Compute infrastructure and smaller on-device models for basic requests, the company is expected to rely on cloud infrastructure for more demanding generative tasks.
Apple is expected to showcase this revamped AI platform and the upgraded Siri experience at WWDC26, which kicks off on June 8.
