Apple Recalls MacBook Air 64GB and 128GB Flash Storage Drives Sold Between June 2012 and June 2013

Posted October 18, 2013 at 2:01pm by iClarified
Apple has issued a recall for certain 64GB and 128GB flash storage drives used in MacBook Air notebooks sold between June 2012 and June 2013.

Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will replace affected flash storage drives, free of charge. To see if your drive may be affected, go to the Mac App Store, click on Updates and choose the MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1. The firmware update will test your drive to see if it is affected. You will be directed back to this page for next steps if needed.

Replacement Process
If your MacBook Air has an affected flash drive, please contact one of the Apple service providers below to schedule an appointment to get your drive replaced:

● Apple Retail Store - Set up an appointment with a Genius.
● Apple Authorized Service Provider - Find one here.
● Apple Technical Support - Contact Apple for local service options.

IMPORTANT: If your drive is affected, we strongly recommend that you do not install any operating system updates or new applications. We also recommend backing up your data on a regular basis until you receive a replacement drive.

I am more concerned about the air battery problems than the flash drive, the mid 2012 was a bad model!

When I try to install the update from the apply support site, it says ''this computer does not require the update''. Does it mean my drive is safe ??

I just had mine replaced about a month ago, I wonder if the new drive they already put in is good or bad? Nothing happened after the update besides it stating that the firmware was updated on my drive.

That's good service from a committed company! Or one that is afraid of class action lawsuits…

You mean one that tries to bash iPhone by bigger screen and steals from them, they get lawsuits like before, soon they will go dead when apple sues them!
