Apple has new display at the Regent Street Apple Store in London that features iPad Smart Covers that open by themselves.

The video below was highlighted on reddit by smickie. It shows a row of five iPads standing on end with different color Smart Covers. The Smart Covers take turns magically opening on their own.

There's no word yet on how Apple rigged up this display but you can take a look and try to figure it out by watching the video below...

We need to send folks from Ghost adventues to the store! Lol
Lolwut - January 13, 2015 at 9:10pm
You mean ghostbusters! But no, just go there and see for yourself.

Definitely magnets but there is also another secret to it. Those smart covers are different than the ones they sell in store. They are missing the magnets that help the cover to stay in place when closed. Hence - there is no resistance for the hidden magnets when they are opening the cover.

The Store in Atlanta Ga. has a similar display on both sides of the entry door, but not on a table rather a proper display. There were no magnets or wires attached to the covers. The covers would bend and open. These may be special covers.

Even if it was true, nobody would want it!!!

I find it creative.

If we jailbreak it, can it be open by itself still?
Ren - January 12, 2015 at 2:49am
Yes. It's not like it affects the parts inside or the display.
Swarley - January 12, 2015 at 8:45am
Nope, it voids the Apple magic. But a restore can fix that right back up.
Shamsul - January 12, 2015 at 2:48pm
I can't see magnet in the cyidia, hopefully someone develop so that it not void anything when jailbroken.

The table is set with magnets and if you look at the far right, it's plugged in for the motorized method.

I'll go with invisible man theory, too. Definitely.
Krishna101 - January 11, 2015 at 11:57pm
The table probably has something to do with it, just a theory.

They have billions. They can create anything they want lol
Aoua - January 11, 2015 at 10:46pm
Magnets???? HOW SILLY. Its the invisible man.
Swarley - January 11, 2015 at 10:39pm
Yep, easy enough. Magnet hooked up to the corner of the Smart Cover. You can tell they don't quite all open the same, because only the corner is connected.

Not sure if homekit enabled that allows this or just a concept of the new cases. Since nothing it holding them up so easily let alone the cases moving, this makes more concern to me.

You ser the power cord to the table on the right. Magnets under the table drawing the cover at the bottom of the iPad
