iPad Shipments to Drop 30% in 2015 [Report]

Posted February 6, 2015 at 7:10pm by iClarified
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is predicting that iPad sales will drop by around 30% this year, the biggest sales decline since the tablet's release.

iPad shipments to plunge over 50% QoQ in 1Q15F & 2Q15F outlook dim; bodes ill for sales & earnings of suppliers through 1H15F. We forecast iPad shipments will decline 52.7% QoQ in 1Q15 to 10.1mn units, and continue to lose momentum in 2Q15F, dropping another 30-40% QoQ to 7-8mn units. 1H15F shipments around 18mn units, down 40% YoY; 2015F to struggle to top 45mn units, down 30% YoY. We forecast iPad shipments of 18mn units in 1H15… Based on seasonal patterns (shipments rise 10-20% HoH in 2H), we project full-year shipments will struggle to top 45mn units, likely marking a 30% decline.

Apple is expected to unveil a 12.x-inch iPad model this year. While Kuo is confident that the larger tablet will " create an improved user experience", it's not expected to "contribute meaningfully to shipments momentum anytime soon."

Notably, it's not just Apple that is seeing declining tablet shipments. Worldwide tablet shipments recorded a year-over-year decline for the first time since the market's inception in 2010, according to a recent IDC report. Despite this, Apple CEO Tim Cook remained optimistic about the tablet's future during the company's recent earnings call. Cook sees room to grow in especially in the enterprise via its partnership with IBM.

I bought a iPad Air 32GB right at the release day here in germany. Usual i buy an update of each apple piece i got. But this time i really felt fucked up really hard. Cause for the same price u got double ram at the ipad air 2. This time apple had a really lame update only . Why the hell the do not use a really fair trade in programm for long time users ? They can sell the old pad's as refurbished and the hardcore fans have always the newest ones. Or and some killer features like l u are able to upgrade ram later for sum bucks. But at the end i am still very good with my ipad air. My wife is still good with here ipad retina 64gb. Only little updates does no old users animate to buy new ones.

Lame updates? I'm blown away for how thin it is and how twice as fast than the 6 and 6 plus, it's stretched out even further. I currently own one and it feels so light speed. My wish is that ipad had those extra apps that iphone gets because I am waiting for a 4-inch iphone and don't want the 6. Too big but would satisfy me. Upgraded ram though for tablets? It's enough we have the a8x chip. Besides why revive the older products, newer ones coming out make old ones feel obselete but it's also going back in time.

And this is when Apple should widen the sandbox. Open the file system and allow users to use their tablets like computers. Will they?? Not a chance but it's exactly what they should do. People aren't buying them because they are cool, not necessary and an iPad does not replace a PC. Apple.... It's time to merge iOS and OSX into one platform.

Why merge two operating systems together? Microsoft was terrible replacing one thing where it was easy to find anything, what good do we expect here, but Apple allowing their os on other tablets? Why? Depending on how others make it, it requires the buttons, ports, and the way Apple continues to make it related to their style of products, but it's also how it connects with the ports inside products. When it comes to windows, it's just placed on there and made deals with paying others to how their products assembled to work like 8, so that's why Microsoft expanded.

I'm happy with my iPad, nothing better than it can replace it. Different sized products mean different apps to use to work, not a so called 2-in-1 computer and tablet.

This is only because a tablet is only "nice" to have. It's not necessary like a phone or computer.
