Preorders for the new iPhone 6s sold out within minutes in South Korea, reports Yonhap News. The country's three mobile carriers SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus launched pre-orders ahead of official launch on Friday.

KT said pre-orders surpassed 10,000 within the first minute and reached 50,000 in less than 10 minutes. It shut down pre-orders and began a second round later in the day. "We're getting an amazing response. We expected to take at least 30 minutes to sell the first 50,000. There was notably a huge demand for the rose gold," an official at KT said.

SK Telecom ended its pre-orders after 30 minutes but wouldn't provide figures.

LG Uplus ended pre-orders after five minutes.

Notably, South Korea is Samsung's home turf and it has had to decrease prices of its latest smartphones to stay competitive with the iPhone 6s.

The price of Samsung's Galaxy S6 was slashed to 799,700 won (US$706) from the previous 924,000 won. That of LG's new V10 came in at 799,700 won from the start of the launch. It is rare for a South Korean tech giant to release a flagship model with an initial local price of below 800,000 won.

We'll let you know how sales go once the iPhone 6s is officially launched in the country.
