Spotify has expanded its music video beta to Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada, giving millions of listeners access to official music videos directly inside the app. The rollout adds studio videos, live performances, and cover versions, with the catalog expected to grow steadily while the feature remains in beta.
Spotify first introduced music videos to about 100 markets last year and says early data shows that video can meaningfully enhance the listening experience. A recent global survey found that more than 70 percent of users believe more video content would improve their time on the platform.
Premium users in the U.S. and Canada can now try the feature across iOS, Android, desktop, and TV. When playing a supported track, a "Switch to video" option appears. Tapping it transitions smoothly to the video at the exact point where the song left off, and users can switch back to audio at any time. Rotating a phone into landscape mode enables full-screen playback. Additional videos, including live and cover versions, can be found under "Related Music Videos" or on an artist's profile in the Music tab.
The initial lineup includes artists such as Ariana Grande, Olivia Dean, BABYMONSTER, Addison Rae, Tyler Childers, Natanael Cano, and Carín León. Playlists organized by genre and decade, like 90s Video Hits, Hip-Hop Throwbacks, and Latin Party Hits, offer more ways to browse. Spotify says all Premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada should have access by the end of December.
Music videos, Spotify says, help build deeper fan engagement. According to the company, listeners who discover a track through a music video are significantly more likely to stream it again or save it in the following week, with heavy listeners showing the biggest jump in long-term engagement.
The rollout arrives amid ongoing friction between the two tech giants. Spotify has been a vocal critic of Apple's policies, a stance bolstered recently when a UK tribunal ruled that Apple had charged excessive and unfair App Store fees.
