Kwikset is expanding its smart home lineup with the Aura Reach, a new connected deadbolt that combines a traditional keypad with modern Matter support. Unveiled at CES 2026, the lock is designed to integrate seamlessly with Apple Home, giving homeowners a way to add smart access features without a complicated installation process.
The lock relies on the Matter standard to communicate over Thread, ensuring it plays nice with Apple's ecosystem as well as Google and Amazon platforms. This follows a broader industry push toward interoperability, mirroring moves like iRobot's recent rollout of Matter support for its vacuums and IKEA's launch of new compatible sensors. By using Matter, the Aura Reach can connect directly to a home network without needing a proprietary bridge, provided a border router is present.
Hardware-wise, the device features a proximity sensor that wakes up the LED-backlit keypad as soon as you approach. It also supports hands-free unlocking through a mix of Bluetooth and geofencing, allowing the door to unlock automatically upon arrival so you don't have to fumble for keys or a phone. For managing guest access, users can generate and track up to 250 unique entry codes directly through the Kwikset app.
Kwikset is pitching the installation as a straightforward DIY job that requires only a screwdriver to fit onto existing door preparations. The unit includes the company's SmartKey Security feature, which protects against lock picking and lets owners rekey the cylinder themselves in seconds. It is rated as ANSI/BHMA Grade 2 for residential security.
To address potential connection issues in larger homes, the lock includes an optional Signal Range Boost feature to extend network performance. Reliable connectivity is becoming a bigger priority for accessory makers, especially with Apple reportedly preparing a dedicated smart home hub for release later this year.
The Kwikset Aura Reach carries a price tag of $189 and is expected to hit stores this winter. It will be available in Satin Nickel and Matte Black finishes. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on X, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for availability updates.
