IKEA is launching a new range of 21 smart home products, signaling a major reboot of its connected home ecosystem. The new lineup has been rebuilt from the ground up to work with the Matter standard — the universal smart home protocol supported by Apple, Google, Amazon, and others — making it easier and more affordable for people to create a unified smart home setup.
"Until now, smart home technology hasn't been easy enough to use for most people — or affordable enough for many to consider," said David Granath, Range Manager at IKEA of Sweden. "This launch brings us closer to helping everyone feel ready and confident to get started."
IKEA says the redesign stems from years of research and testing in real homes, leading to a better understanding of how people want technology to fit naturally into daily life. The company's goal remains unchanged since it entered the category in 2012: to make the smart home simple, purposeful, and within reach for the many.
At the center of the updated system is IKEA's DIRIGERA hub, which acts as both a Matter controller and a bridge for existing non-Matter IKEA products. This allows older smart bulbs and devices to remain compatible with modern platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.
The new product lineup spans three key areas: • Lighting: The KAJPLATS bulb series succeeds the TRÅDFRI range, offering 11 variations across E27/E26, E14, and GU10 fittings, with dimmable color and white spectrum options reaching up to 1,521 lumens. Clear-glass decorative bulbs join the lineup for ambient lighting. • Sensors: New models like MYGGSPRAY (motion), MYGGBETT (door/window), ALPSTUGA (air quality), TIMMERFLOTTE (temperature/humidity), and KLIPPBOK (water leakage) bring expanded monitoring for comfort, safety, and energy efficiency. • Control: The BILRESA remote control series includes button and scroll-wheel designs, while the GRILLPLATS smart plug allows ordinary lamps or appliances to be controlled remotely and even track energy consumption.
"We're upgrading our most-appreciated products while adding new ones to solve more everyday challenges," explained Stjepan Begic, Product Developer at IKEA of Sweden. "Our focus has been on keeping things simple from setup to daily use, so it's easy for people to start, use, and grow a smart home."
The launch comes as Apple continues to develop its own smart home hardware. The company is reportedly working on a new smart display to serve as a home command hub, which is now expected to be manufactured in Vietnam. IKEA's commitment to the Matter standard ensures its new products will work within the ecosystem Apple is helping to build.
IKEA notes that the full range of 21 new products will be rolling out in the coming months, though specific launch dates and pricing will vary by market.
