iRobot has begun rolling out Matter support to a selection of its robot vacuums, officially bringing Apple Home integration to select Roomba models. The update allows compatible devices to communicate directly with Apple's smart home ecosystem using the manufacturer-independent Matter connection standard.
The new compatibility covers the Roomba Combo 10 Max, Roomba Plus 500 Combo, Roomba Max 700 Vac, and Roomba Max 700 Combo. While Matter is designed to be platform-agnostic, iRobot currently lists Apple Home as the only supported ecosystem for this rollout. To enable the feature, users must navigate to the "Connected Services" section within the iRobot Home or Roomba Home mobile app and link their account.
Once added to the Home app, the robots can be controlled through the interface or via Siri voice commands. Supported actions include starting, stopping, pausing, and resuming cleaning jobs, sending the robot back to its dock, locating it if it gets stuck, and initiating directed room cleaning. Battery status and cleaning progress are also exposed directly in Apple Home.
To use these features, an iPhone running iOS 18.4 or later is required. Remote control and automation require a home hub, such as a HomePod or an Apple TV running tvOS 18.4 or later.
The rollout comes just weeks after iRobot filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and entered into an acquisition agreement with Picea. Despite the financial restructuring, the company has previously said its product roadmap and customer support operations will continue without interruption.
iRobot also confirmed that Matter functionality has been temporarily removed from the Roomba Combo j7 and j9 models because they were not properly Matter-certified. The company says it is actively pursuing certification to restore support for those devices, though no timeline was provided.
