Pointer Software Systems has released Snoring U 2.1, the latest update for iPhone and iPod touch users. Snoring U 2.1 was developed under the guidance of Dr. Naveh Tov, MD, PhD. Dr Tov is an Israeli physician specializing in internal pulmonary and sleep medicine. This app doesn't claim to cure snoring, but can give users the "nudge" they need to roll over and stop snoring; while providing valuable information to the user's doctor about their sleep disorder.
The "nudge" is a vibration (with iPhone), a sound that the user can choose or record, or both. Snoring U 2.1 listens as the user sleeps, and when it detects snoring, it can deliver the nudge to prompt them to stop snoring and roll over. Users also have the option of sleep monitoring only (no nudge) to record data about the sleep session, or monitoring the entire sleep session and keeping snoring events in condensed data files.
Features of Snoring U include: * Supports iOS 4 * Records and plays sounds * Nudges to help users stop snoring * Email from app * Continues to work when device is in sleep mode * History feature lets users review previous sleep sessions * Works with iPod touch with microphone installed
When the user wakes up in the morning, the Summary screen shows them how long they slept, how often they snored during the night, how loud their snoring was, and how many nudges they received over the course of the night. The "See Graph" button takes users to see an easy to read, zoom-able graph that has even more statistics that can be emailed to their physician right from the app. With the history feature, users, as well as their doctors, can review not only the most recent sleep session, but past sessions as well. This can help gain a better idea of the success of treatment over time.
Ilan Aisic, the developer of SU 2.1, saw the need for a self-diagnosed sleep lab that someone could use to monitor and assess their situation before ever going to see a physician. In part, the idea actually came from his wife because- "When I turn on my back during the night, I would eventually start snoring. My wife would wake up after a while and then either "nudge" me, or sometimes she would just whisper to me to stop snoring and turn around. This would be enough and I usually didn't even remember it in the morning. So, one day my wife suggested that instead of her waking up, my "so smart" phone could listen to me and tell me in her voice to turn over..."
With this latest update, Snoring u 2.1 does exactly what Ilan and his wife envisioned, and more.
