How to Bypass iOS 5 Beta 1 Activation Without a Developer Account

Posted June 7, 2011 at 5:52pm by
Mert Erdir has found a way to bypass iOS 5 beta 1 activation without having a developer account, reports Gizmodo.

My will is not to do something harmful to anyone, I just wanted to get the attention of Apple, the company I'm in love with; and maybe one day have a chance to talk to/meet Steve Jobs himself. You can reach me on Twitter for further questions.

I found this because I don't have much cash to get an IOS Developer account, so donations for a young developer will be appreciated. They can be made on my blog (not in english). You'll see the PayPal donate button on the right. Thanks!

Warning: We do not recommend that anyone who is not a developer install iOS 5. Proceed at your own risk... iPad 2 owners should be especially careful since they cannot downgrade even with SHSH blobs

Instructions:
Before starting make sure you have downloaded iOS 5.0 and installed by Shift/Option clicking Update or Restore in iTunes.

1. Triple click the home button. This will activate the Voice Over.
2. Triple click the home button and Emergency Call will appear.
3. Click on Emergency Call and, while it's switching, swipe with your three fingers down.
4. The Notification Center will appear!
5. Click on the Weather widget. The Weather app will load.
6. Click on the home button to exit to the iPhone's springboard.

Update:
These instructions will let you bypass activation but apparently will not activate cellular service. You can still use them to preview the operating system but without the ability to make calls, it's far less useful.

Those with an iPod touch could try the instructions posted by Lean in the comments since cellular service is not an issue with that device.

Another easier way is just to go to emergency call and dial an emergency number... during the call press the keypad button... from there you can press home button to get to the homescreen.

I had no problem downgrading my ipad2 from ios5 to 4.3.3

This is not an Activation, this is just a tricky way to get into the homescreen. The multitasking bar is disabled and the notification center won't work. And most important, the phone WOULD NOT HAVE SIGNAL.

Beware the Battery life on iPhone 4 is horrible with this beta. Down 50% within about 2 hours with wifi, most notifications, and spotlight search off. Aside from that everything seems to be working smoothly.

Easier method: Press emergency call, call an emergency number and press the lock button while it's starting to call. It'll say failed, just press ok and you will be at the home screen.

Plug your iPad into iTunes and under the info screen click once on the serial number and it will show ur UDID! It's 40 characters long, numbers and letters

Nope, it's easy to get in iTunes though. Just click on the serial # and it changes to something beautiful. The just head to the menu to copy it.

Yes. You can downgrade it to 4.3.3 by entering into DFU mode and then click restore. That will take you back down to 4.3.3

I can't get iOS 5 to install on my iPhone 4. I keep getting the "this device is not eligible for this build" message which i was attributing to the fact that my UDID wasn't registered with Apple. But that is supposed to be the whole point of this discovery......... Thoughts??
