Second Gear has announced the immediate availability of Today 2.1, the latest version of its popular calendaring application Today. Today makes it easy to get a one day snapshot view of your upcoming events and tasks in a compact window. No iCal required.

Version 2.1 adds support for BusyCal, the popular third-party calendaring and collaboration app from BusyMac. Users with BusyCal set as their default calendaring application will now be able to see, create and open events from their BusyCal calendars. Today 2.1 was also backported to run on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. A full changelog is available on the Today Web site.

What's new in Today 2.1:
* Added support for opening events and tasks externally in BusyCal
* Added support for Mac OS X 10.5 / Leopard
* Darker events should be more legible now
* Pressing enter in the notes field on a new event or task no longer creates the event or task
* Resolved issue where new event and task windows wouldn't pop to the top
* Resolved issue where registration fields were editable after licensing
* Resolved some unsightly default layout issues in a few windows
* Updated the localization of each xib to hopefully have a nicer layout
* Resolved issue where toggling the splitview would clip the tasks lists in some instances
* Added x-today2-reg:// URL scheme for handling registrations
* Added newsletter signup prompt

Today Features:
* See events and tasks for each day
* Create new events and tasks directly from the application
* Filter what events and tasks appear in Today based on their calendar
* Open an event or task externally in iCal
* Quick navigation between dates in the past or future
* Smaller footprint than iCal
* Synchronizes calendar information from iPhone and iPod touch
* Synchronizes between multiple Macs using MobileMe
* Works with Mac OS X Snow Leopard's system-wide CalendarStore

Pricing and Availability:
Today costs $21.95 (USD). Family Pack licenses, which cover up to 5 computers in one household, are $34.95. Upgrades from earlier versions of Today are $11.95, and free to users who purchased after November 1, 2009. A 14-day fully-functioning demo of Today is available at the Second Gear web site.
