Manufacturing Content has announced the release of Tractor Beam 1.11 for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. The new version of the retro arcade title marks Manufacturing Content's entry on the nascent Apple iPad platform and is part of the first batch of games released for the brand new device.
Migration to the larger screen size has presented a challenge to many iPhone developers, as makers of games that provided users with on-screen D-pads for control of the game have found the device to be unsuitable to a handheld style of play. In-game graphics have often had to be scaled up or redesigned.
Tractor Beam is exceptionally suited to the new platform, with its intuitive gameplay that involves simply touching an asteroid to slingshot around it with one's tractor beam as one makes their way through deep space, unarmed and out of fuel. The game can be easily played on a tabletop or one-handed and its nostalgia-inducing retro graphics scale up automatically to the larger screen, allowing for more accuracy in gameplay than the smaller iPhone or iPod touch could provide.
Tractor Beam is a universal app meaning the same software will run on iPhone, iPod touch, or in its larger and more detailed incarnation on iPad. Current owners will receive the universal binary including the new iPad version as a free update, and likewise customers who buy Tractor Beam from the iPad store will be able to play on their iPhones and iPod touches.
The developers plan to bring much more to the iPad platform and take advantage of the new opportunities presented by the larger and more immersive interface while maintaining the focus on the intuitive style of controls that make Tractor Beam such an engaging experience on the new platform.
Pricing and Availability: Tractor Beam 1.11 is only $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category.
