Apple announced its first dating docuseries today. "The Last Person on Earth" is an eight-episode series featuring New York Times bestselling author and renowned couples therapist Esther Perel.
In the series, couples who appear to be opposites are paired by Perel and a team of matchmakers and therapists before embarking on an adventure in one of the world's most romantic and remote destinations. The experiment asks whether the last person you would ever expect to date could become the one you cannot live without.
"Over the course of my career as a couples therapist, one truth has become undeniable: love may crave closeness, but desire is fueled by otherness," Perel said. "'The Last Person on Earth' is a bold exploration of relationships that challenges everything we assume about compatibility; inviting people to drop the checklist and embrace dating as an adventure into the unknown. When we choose to step outside the narrow boundaries of what feels familiar or safe, passionate love stories can flourish."
Boldprint Studios is producing the series. Dan Gray, Lou Hutchinson, and Phil Harris serve as executive producers, with Josh Jacobs directing the series. Olly Lambert also serves as director.
While Apple TV has previously focused on scripted dramas, comedies, documentaries, and unscripted competition series, "The Last Person on Earth" marks its first dating series. Apple has yet to announce a release date.
