How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 4, 3GS Using JailbreakMe [4.3.3]

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.3.3 or iOS 4.2.8 (Verizon CDMA) using JailbreakMe.

If you are already on iOS 4.3.3 or iOS 4.2.8 you can skip the first five steps of this tutorial.

*Remember that updating to iOS 4.3.3 will update your baseband and perhaps ruin your chances of an unlock. Use TinyUmbrella (Mac, Windows) to update the iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.3 without updating the baseband.

Step One
Create a Pwnage folder on your desktop and place the iOS 4.3.3 or iOS 4.2.8 (Verizon CDMA) ipsw in it.

You can download the ipsw for your device from here:
4.3.3 (3GS): iPhone2,1_4.3.3_8J2_Restore.ipsw
4.3.3 (4 GSM): iPhone3,1_4.3.3_8J2_Restore.ipsw
4.2.8 (4 CDMA): iPhone3,3_4.2.8_8E401_Restore.ipsw

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 4, 3GS Using JailbreakMe [4.3.3]

Step Two
Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

Step Three
Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left

Step Four
Hold down the Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) key and click the Restore button.

Step Five
Select the iOS 4.3.3 ipsw from the Pwnage folder on your desktop and click Open.

Step Six
Once your iPhone is running iOS 4.3.3, press to launch Safari from your desktop.

Step Seven
Navigate to http://www.jailbreakme.com and press the Free button.

Step Eight
Press the Install button.

Step Nine
Safari will now close and Cydia will download and install.

Step Ten
Press to launch Cydia and enjoy your jailbroken iPhone!

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1 and 03.10.01 BB... Updating it to 4.3.3, folowing this tutorial... will the BB change to any of those (04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04, 06.15.00, or 01.59) that are unlockable by http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com?

I get this message when I try to restore "The Iphone could not be restored. The device isn't eligible for the requested build" What do I do???

Hi, when I try to download "iPhone2,1_4.3.3_8J2_Restore.ipsw" it only downloads *.zip file. Where is the ipsw file?

Please help: I installed Lion and accidentally had my iPhone 3GS updated to 4.3.4 although it was greenpois0n jailbroken on iPad 6.15.00 baseband. Now it won't let me restore on iTunes, with that annoying 'unknown' error. Any chance I'll be able to use this phone again in the near (distant?) future? Cheers

I got my Iphone 4 in December but with no contract, from the US. I gifted it to my brother in Dubai, the problem was that the phone was locked. Finally today I got through Iclarified and I was following the steps and then I came to the part where I had to use safari on the Iphone4 and go to www.jailbreakme.com. i did that and there it said come back on your Iphone, iPad, or IPOD touch to use Jailbreak me. The thing is I was on my Iphone 4 when I did that but still it said that and could not download Cydia. Could someone help please? Thanks.

If you already have 4.3.3 it says to skip the first five steps not jump to step five.

Hi I already had Cydia threw redsn0w (computer) and I wanted to try it threw iPhone 4's Safari browser. It worked but it didnt let me download FuriousMod to unlock with Gevey Ultra Sim. I wanted to know if its a bug or if there is a way i can download it?

I already had 4.3.3 installed, whenever Cydia begins loading it gets as far as install then cancels. No idea whats happening. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same problem. Was on 4.2 (with greenpoison i think) and then upgraded to 4.3.3 before the jailbreakme "fix". My phone is jailbroken (I can run some applications that were left on the phone) but no cydia. Rather disturbing...

I've been trying to update while having TinyUmbrella running in the background to keep my baseband but I can't get out of DFU mode. I've restored numerous times (Shift+restore etc.) but no dice. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks ctj. I used pwnage tool and redsn0w to get it going. It kept my baseband fine but my contacts, ringtones, music, videos etc. aren't properly syncing from my last backup. Weird. Guess I have to try to figure that out. Thanks again ctj.

I couldn't get pass step:1. The ipsw (if its called that), or restore file, was in a Win Rar file and so wouldnt let me restore from it. When I extract the files it still wont let me restore from them

I love this type of jailbreak great job! I wonder if there is any advantage to using this over pwnage tool or redsn0w (except for the obvious convienence). Still an issue with baseband mismatch requiring ultrasn0w?

Hi i'm updating my iphone 3gs from IOS 4.1 on 4.3.3 and at step 6 when restoring iphone with this file downloaded from your site (iPhone2,1_4.3.3_8J2_Restore) error 1015 appears, what can i do about this!

Just remove the gs.apple.com address redirection in your host file! :) That did the trick for me.

there is thousand ideas or app or tweaks to save the battery, one of them is the SBSettings and the SBSettings Schedule, you can in a very "baby" easy way turn on or off the resourses you need or don´t need, additional you can kill the running processes you don´t need like for example the EMail App is always running and sucking the battery off. Enjoy it

So, I already had version 4.3.3 (8J2) with Firmware 05.16.02. It said for those whoe already had 4.3.3 to skip the first 5 steps. I did and opened Safari clicked on install and for only a few seconds the Cydia icon appears on my screen and when it says installing it disapears! Am I missing something? Please help!

You might try rebooting. I seem to remember something about needing to reboot after you DL and install Cydia, from another video I saw. Good luck!

Those who have problem jailbreaking with jailbreakme 3. You will see the cydia icon start loading but disappear after the blue bar hit halfway. I just got a solution. 1. do a restore. 2. After the restore finish, do not restore from the backup! 3. goto www(dot)jailbreakme(dot)com and jail break your phone 1st. 4. restore backup. *do at your own risk

Ok can confirm I have just done a full restore on my Iphone 4 to 4.3.3 and tried again and it now works! So it looks like if you upgraded to 4.3.3 from an older version it wont work, only if u do a restore

Yep, you MUST do a Shift + restore then go to jailbreakme.com BEFORE you reload your backup

Yes... you are right.. it worked for me on my iphone 4. initially i upgraded.. and faced the same problem. after i did a restore, cydia is now showing correctly and next i just need to restore from backup..!

Sort of a newbie here. I want to be able to restore from my latest backup so should I just do a Restore from iTunes or a Shift Restore from iTunes? The shift restore is asking for a file to restore from and I am not sure what file to use for that process. Also, if I do the full regular restore (not the shift restore) won't the phone then sync during the process, thus over-writing my backup? How do I prevent that from happening? Just unplug the phone before the sync starts? How will I know exactly when to unplug the phone? Sorry for the dumb questions and thanks for any help you can provide.

The thing bout this jailbreak is if u wanna do it to ur phone, it can only work on iPhone 4 with initial 4.3.3 os. I've done and proven it. The others regardless of iPhone 4 or 3GS as long as from day 1 u got the phone and it's not on os 4.3.3, u have to use the method I found mentions on my older post. Do remember to allow Cydia to fully update it's packages before u restore back ur stuffs
