Nike+ Only Works With iPod touch 2G Not iPhone

It has been confirmed that Nike+ will only work with the 2G iPod touch and not the iPhone or 1G iPod touch.

Apple confirmed this information to Gizmodo:
Owners of the first-gen iPod touch, the iPhone and iPhone 3G are locked out, because of the technology required to connect the device to the receiver in your shoe without using the standard dock connector dongle. Apple also said that even if you shove in the dongle to the unsupported devices, nothing will happen, so we're out of luck until some hackers get to working on enabling this "unofficially."

Why not 'ot use the GPS on iPhone 3G to have the same Nike+ service?. It would be much better, more precise, you would not have the issue of connecting a dongle to the iPhone and you could also enhance the service by showing your run on a map, for instance. No?

I assume this is due to the iPod Touch 2G having a new radio chipset which by the way supports Bluetooth and FM Radio...
