Loktar_Sun has discovered a new method for unlocking the iPhone, according to a report posted by Laforet.
The method uses Sam Bingner's SAM (Subscriber Artificial Module) package that can be installed on jailbroken phones.
It has been confirmed working by iPhone Dev-Team member MuscleNerd who notes an update may be coming to SAM from @sbingner to make the procedure simpler.
Loktar_Sun's method will work to unlock your iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, or iPhone 3G. We've posted detailed step by step instructions on how to unlock your device here.

Confirmed working with the following:
- iPhone 4s locked to AT&T
- iPhone 4 locked to Vodafone Spain
- iPhone 4 locked to Telenor Sweden
It can practically run with all sims provided you just register one with the prescribed method.
Remember you put sim in with no gevey (the SIM that is unsupported)
You must be jailbroken

I finally fixed the proböem with step 7!!!
First you have to use the SIM card the phone i locked to. Open SAM and go to More Information and copy the IMSI.
Close SAM and change to the SIM card you want to use with the unlock.
When you are at step 6, instead change the IMSI to the one we copied from the old SIM card.
This worked great for me with the Swedish Carrier Telia.

I've got the same thing... Followed the guide and step 7 fails. iTunes says the SIM isn't supported. In step 4 I chose "SIM ID" and there was only one choice, I can't uncheck that now... maybe that's the case.

works with one sim only !!!!!!
yay!

Nicholas carter - April 22, 2012 at 8:07am
this cant be true .SAM is used only to activate an iPhone as if it were activated with real sim. that's it.....it doesn't let you unlock shit

I have a Sprint (CDMA) 5.0.1 JB and i have a spare StraightTalk sim that I want to try out which is a GSM, would this unlock work? I don't see StraightTalk listed anywhere in the Carriers list.

who cares - April 22, 2012 at 6:30am
who cares about the unlock..use it with T-mobile? t-mobile eventually s going out of business ..
We want the Jailbreak 5.1..
If you can afford to travel overseas you can afford to buy an iPhone 4S unlocked thru Apple ..
I own my Iphone4S 32 gig att just unlocked it for me...but its on 5.1 unlock don't mean shit to me I could use jailbreak then this unlock...I am so pissed my iPhones4s was on 5.01 untethered jailbroken like a dumb ass att made me update it to get the unlock code thru iTunes ..
They said thats the only way you receive the unlock ..cuz they release the unlock code to apple then apple sends it thru iTunes..
Yea its unlocked but who cares aim still using it with at&t..
Do you get my point?
So guys jailbreak is the best method then unlock
Pleaaaaaaazzze POD2 hurry up release the untethered jailbreak 5.1 ..I am sending you $50 my way to thank yu for you hard work

Agree with italia, if you really know what your doing you should've used SAM instead of listening to apple and AT

who cares - April 22, 2012 at 3:03pm
The point I was trying to make was ,a Jailbreak is more necessarily then Unlock.
I used to have T-mobile I disagree with you cuz T-mobile hasn't better coverage than TM,as matter of fact its the opposite for me in my basement is a dead zone.
Anyways you guys didn't get my point...In America we only have 1 carrier that doesn't have an iPhone is T-mobile..so the unlock is useless for me...Id rather have a jailbreak over an unlock ..thats all

who cares - April 23, 2012 at 3:49am
Correction, I meant doesn't have better coverage..
