Microsoft has revealed that despite its best efforts Apple isn't interested in creating a Windows 8 app for iTunes 'any time soon', reports CNN. The company says nearly all major apps will be available via the new Windows 8 user interface by this fall; however, iTunes is unlikely.
"You shouldn't expect an iTunes app on Windows 8 any time soon," said Tami Reller, chief financial officer of Microsoft's Windows division. "iTunes is in high demand. The welcome mat has been laid out. It's not for lack of trying."
Of course, users will still be able to download iTunes for use in "Desktop" mode; however, tablets running Windows RT, such as the Surface RT, are not able to run desktop applications.
Its easy to go around the Apple 30% cut. Just have users to pay for it on MSFT webpage.
Many apps does like this. For example Dark Horse comics. All their special/bundles are only on their webpage. Buy them there = no Apple 30% cut
and synced into iOS.
BTW.
I guess you are a bit uneducated about the "30%" tax. iTunes store was a break even venture for over 5 years. Especially movies/music where the cut is 9-11%.
I guess you believe that servers and bandwidth are free?
I also dont understand how its ok to pay gamestop 50% when you buy a game there, but its evil to pay Apple 30% when you buy a game with them?
Same with Office. When you buy office in a computer store, their cut is MORE then 30%. Guess that its OK also?
Please study some IT and come back in 20 years when you understand that X86 is not the best processor in the world or that MSFT have never released a good OS (its their business model: they need people to upgrade).
Apple is evil for their 37% profit. But MSFT is good because of their 57% profit.
Apple is evil because is closed. But MSFT is good because Win8 with EFI secure boot don't allow you to install any other OS then Windows.
Apple is evil for their 30% cut. But MSFT is good when they take a 30% cut in their App store.
and more and more and more....
What you lot don't understand is unless you get the pro version it's just a tablet not a full pc with windows there's no iTunes for android or ipad either you don't need iTunes on a surface
I have had every windows since windows 2000 came out centuries ago, and this windows 8 I hated it so bad I uninstalled it right away when they had the free try out. Sorry but I don't see how they can like this type of flat windows and no start button oh well I'm 1 human being so they don't care lol but ugly windows very ugly
It isn't so much the lack of a start button (since MS is now offering to create a 'non-functional' "Start" button), but the fact they couldn't decide what kind of interface to use, and ended up with two conflicting ones (touch and keyboard) which compete with each other and often produces unexpected and undesirable effects.
Win 8 is a mess, pure and simple. MS needs to rethink the entire thing and decide whether they want a desktop OS or a tablet, trying to force the same OS on both was a huge mistake.
