Russian Government Drops iPad for Samsung Tablets

Posted March 27, 2014 at 4:29pm by
Russian government officials have swapped their iPads for Samsung tablets to ensure tighter security, according to the country's telecoms minister.

The AFP reports that journalists spotted the change at a cabinet meeting and minister Nikolai Nikiforov confirmed the switch "took place not so long ago." Nikiforov said that the Samsung tablets were "specially protected devices that can be used to work with confidential information."

"Some of the information at government meetings is confidential in nature and these devices fully meet these demands and have gone through the strictest system of certification."

Nikiforov denied that the switch was due to sanctions put on the country for its takeover of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula; however, he did suggest that the country would be increasingly targeted by surveillance efforts and so they had to be choosy about their partners.

"American special services... will significantly increase the volume of information they intercept (which) of course causes serious concern to many governmental clients. This obviously orientates Russian clients, primarily state ones, to be very choosy about their partners in IT."

Really. This is a typical defensive remark backed up by character derision and no constructive argument. I know there is anti-malware products on Android however I wouldn't use one. It's not all crap hardware as you put it.

I do since I keep defending like it's my right over nothing. The government is one of barely any users of the samsung tablet anywhere else.

So they chose the garbage over quality. Along with so many of their failed previous tech inventions. They just never learn.

I think we should get a good hacker so he can hack their devices and show them they're less secure this way, very bad move Putin...

How about the iPhones and Mac Notebooks, etc? They can as well go ahead and stop using them too if they are really too serious about their privacy, otherwise what they just did makes no sense at all! That for sure they cannot do without I guess for sure!!!
