Apple has reached an agreement with American Express for its iPhone payments system, according to Re/code.

Apple has reached an agreement with American Express to work together on its new iPhone payments system, according to sources familiar with the talks. American Express is one of several partners Apple will need to sign up before it can launch its new payments plan, which sources say it plans to announce at its September 9 product event.

The payment system will reportedly allow iPhone 6 owners to present their phone instead of a credit card or cash to pay for goods. Numerous reports have indicated that the iPhone 6 will finally support NFC and have a secure enclave for storing credit card information, making the payment system possible.

In addition to American Express, The Information reports that Visa has agreed to work with Apple.

The iPhone 6 and a wearable device are expected to be unveiled on September 9th when Apple holds its big press event. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
