Staples has announced that Apple Pay is now the number one payment method in its iOS apps.
"Right now it's the number one payment method for us in our iOS apps," said Prat Vemana, VP of Mobile Commerce for Staples, at panel discussion hosted by Chetan Sharma Consulting in Seattle on Tuesday. Vemana said that 30% of purchases made in the Staples iOS apps use Apple Pay, reports FierceMobileIT.
Notably, many of those Apple Pay customers are first time buyers. When the company first implemented Apple Pay, 65% of transactions using the payment method were by first time Staples customers.
"Apple Pay has been one of the most successful implementations when it comes to payments," he said.
Vemana says that Apple Pay hasn't taken off as quickly in stores. A "healthy" number of people have used it but it's not in the top three payment methods in stores.
"On mobile it overtook everything else so I think it will be a slower adoption in stores," he said.

Not worth it. I changed banks after the last draw with them and that was being charged twice the amount I normally should pay for when using Apple pay.
