What does "support for taxis" mean? Other than the lanes at airports, I don't know of any special lanes anywhere in New York just for taxis.

Yeah, because New York, and America are the only places in the world that use Waze.
Ireland for example have lanes that are usable by Taxi's and emergency vehicles.

Cities like San Francisco also have Taxi only lanes.
