iPhone X and iPhone 8 Support Fast Charging to 50% in 30 Minutes If You Buy a New Charger

Posted September 13, 2017 at 7:14pm by iClarified
The new iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone 8 support fast charging. Apple says they can be charged to 50% in 30 minutes using one of their more powerful USB-C chargers.

Testing conducted by Apple in August 2017 using preproduction iPhone X units and software and accessory Apple USB-C Power Adapters (29W Model A1540, 61W Model A1718, 87W Model A1719). Fast-charge testing conducted with drained iPhone units. Charge time varies with environmental factors; actual results will vary.

It's likely that third party chargers will soon support the fast charging feature but for now you'll need one of Apple's USB-C chargers:
Apple MNF82LL/A 87W USB-C Power Adapter - $79
Apple MNF72LL/A 61W USB-C Power Adapter - $69
Apple MJ262LL/A 29W USB-C Power Adapter - $49

In addition, you'll need a USB-C to Lightning cable:
Apple MK0X2AM/A USB-C to Lightning Cable (1M) [Apple.com]- $25

Apple hasn't indicated if using the 87W charger will be quicker than using the 29W charger. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

I’m sure third-party solutions will be cheaper

What? Now THIS is greed. Maybe Apple needs to learn a lesson about reasonable iPhone setups, this is ridiculous and I won't fall for it.

This also one has to buy ??? Cant apple ever be s little generous . Like seriously. First the phone is as expensive as a human kidney and then it wants us to spend more on its chargers.

Wow apple that is so cool.....oh wait my old samsung phone can do this 2 years ago lol

No offense but that is 105 bucks for charger plus cable for something that should have been straight out of the box. My Galaxy s8 charger does that for free right out of the box. Are the new iPhone compliant with Qualcom quick charge 3.0 ? If not, why not? Why create a new standard. It looks to me what apple is referring to is not really quick charging/fast charging but rather a suggestion that use a higher wattage charger to charge it quick, which makes sense to a certain extent.

The fast charging on Samsung devices ruin the battery life cycles where as the new fast charging on the iPhone does not do this so it’s better
