iTunes Is Unlikely to Move Into the Cloud Tomorrow?

Peter Kafka from AllThingsD believes it's unlikely that Music Subscriptions or Streaming will be announced by Apple tomorrow.

Earlier today Apple used its entire homepage to say that "Tomorrow is just another day. That you’ll never forget. Check back here tomorrow for an exciting announcement from iTunes."

Many hope that tomorrow will move iTunes into the cloud; however, Kafka's industry sources put a damper on that possibility.

The music industry sources I’ve talked to so far today don’t know of any new deals between Apple and the big music labels. So that would rule out a new subscription service, which would definitely require a new rights deal.

And that also makes it very unlikely that Apple does the next best thing: Letting users upload their iTunes catalog to the cloud, and letting them access it anywhere they want.

intomobile.com says this, true or not: "...theory points to the long-awaited arrival of the Beatles to the iTunes catalog. This rumor comes fresh out of the Wall Street Journal which has sources that claim Apple has worked on this deal with EMI as recently as last week. The details of the negotiation have not been revealed. It is not known whether the Beatles will be an iTunes exclusive or will be available on other music services. This rumor, of course, is based upon word of mouth sources only and can not be corroborated."

I like the idea of music/content (probably starting with music and later video, probably) stored to the cloud. 10GB free to all, gotta compete with DropBox, 120GB to MobileMe subscribers (same size as biggest iPod) this will then allow for cheaper streaming only iPods! If they allowed streaming over 3G on iPhone, AT&T will love it since they went to tired data recently. iTunes likes it, cuz i bet they only allow content purchased through iTunes to be stored. (lame) Think about it, they didn't expand iPhone storage with iPhone 4, and the options for flash storage on iPad and MacBook Air are pretty slim. A LOT of people (including me) have to use a separate hard drive just for music libraries since they've gotten so huge. It's annoying to have to choose what i sync to my iDevices, it kinda forces me to only listen to a handful of artists instead of hitting shuffle on my big library of music like i can at home.

They are going to make the iTunes samples longer. That's pretty much all of it.

I would put money on it, that it is just going to be the Beatles release on iTunes. Anything bigger then that would have had an event or leaks.

I'm telling you...Apple is doing away with iTunes. They've finally seen the light.
