well, i'd rather return it and get the new one. that's what they're trying to avoid

sounds like a rip off to me... just keep the one you got and buy the new one too... 100$ after you just bought it for 499 is a complete and total rip off

What are you talking about? They will give you $100 back because it dropped the price. Not buy your old iPad for $100 so you can buy a new one for $499 or more.
