Mac Pro to Get Unique CPU? New Mac Mini, Time Capsule, Airport Extreme Details

M.I.C. Gadget offers some details on the upcoming Mac Mini, Mac Pro, Time Capsule, and Airport Extreme updates in an article posted today.

The site reports that Apple will update the Mac Mini in late July or early August with Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt. This means a switch from NVIDIA graphics to Intel graphics. They also predict that Apple will release a new Mac Pro around the same time that features an all new design and a custom CPU.

Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt are coming to the new Mac Pro, and at the same time, an unique CPU will be developed for Mac. This unique CPU is not seen in PC. So, the new Mac Pro will be significantly faster with the updated processor, and it is good for enterprise. However, the hot swappable drives are gone and there’s no interchangeable power supply.


Elaborating on the rumored Airport Extreme and Time Capsule updates, M.I.C. Gadget reports that the new Time Capsule has an improved design to dissipate heat, a lower power hard drive, a new efficient TDP (thermal displacement unit), and custom Apple drive firmware. They believe that Apple might drop the 1TB drive and go with 2TB and possibly 3TB configurations.

The new Airport Extreme is reportedly getting better range thanks to six built-in antennas. It will also have better heat dissipation and be able to operate two networks and one guest network.

It has two networks and one guest network, so three networks per device! Users can create a "guest network" on top of their two networks, and the guest network could be switched on/off, and it limits what people can do on it.

Finally, M.I.C. Gadget predicts that the new Time Capsule and Airport Extreme will be able to cache software updates for both Mac OS X and iOS.
