$5 per month, $200 deductible.
So you buy the phone for $200, with two year contract. A year later, you've already paid $60 in insurance fees, and you lose your phone.
So you invoke the insurance, and pay the $200 deductible, and get a refurbished phone replacement, since you have a year left of contract.
This is where it gets weird. AT&T will extend your contract for another year, in order to sell you another discounted phone. But you can pay $260 for insurance instead, to avoid an extra year of contract? There's a middle ground here where we are damned if we do, damned if we don't.
In other news, AT&T and Apple should be sued for conspiring to avoid responsibility for allowing stolen devices on their network, as it encourages theft.
It is as easy as putting in your own sim card and restoring the phone, and you just stole yourself a nice newer phone, with zero risk or downside!
Why buy new, when you can just steal one and be guaranteed to get away with it?
Ask a european about stolen mobiles...they don't have any, since once reported stolen their networks ban the device.
Yes, you're right: there's been NO insurance offered by AT&T for the iPhone until now. I bought renter's insurance so that my iPhone would be protected since AT&T failed in that department. But i may have to rethink this one.
This some BS!! I've been a customer since the first iPhone and have upgraded every new model... So only new 4s can be insured? "within 30 days of purchase"... Foul!
Considering the page says 50/150 per claim, yea that is horrible cuz its outside their own specified price range. and yea that 30 days is bs they are just trying to trap a few new customers with an iphone 4 before the next one hits the streets
