Paul, the phone part is disabled because installing Kate turns TTY on in your phone setting. Put it off and the phone part will be working again.

I agree with Mateus - Kate broke the phone part of my iPhone. Uninstalling Kate brought it back.
iPhone 3G 16 gig
2.0.1 firmware
jailbroken with WinPwn 2.0.0.4

worked perfectly for me @ first attempt, after I installed I rebooted, then go into settings and rip dev is at the bottom, pick what you want reboot and you should have it then. On this version there is no Kate icon on springboard. Hope this helps. Vindalou

If anyone gets this working, seriously tell me how to do it.
I've tried so many combinations of installing MobileEnhancer, RiP Dev Preferences, and Kate, and rebooting and respringing too many times to count, but it just won't work.
I've checked; the files for them are all there in /Library/MobileEnhancer, /User/Library/Preferences/com.ripdev.xxxxxxxxx, and /User/Library/RiPDev. I guess ijust needthe right order of installing them, etc.
