Consumer Reports has announced that a new satisfaction survey has ranked AT&T as the worst carrier in the U.S. for a second year.
Of the four major U.S. national cell-phone standard service providers, Verizon again scored the highest in this year's Ratings, followed closely by Sprint. Survey respondents gave very good scores to Verizon for texting and data service satisfaction, as well for staff knowledge.
T-Mobile was below Verizon and Sprint but continued to rate significantly better than the higher-priced AT&T, which recently withdrew its application to the FCC to merge with its better rival.
"Our survey indicates that subscribers to prepaid and smaller standard-service providers are happiest overall with their cell-phone service," said Paul Reynolds, electronics editor for Consumer Reports. "However, these carriers aren't for everyone. Some are only regional, and prepaid carriers tend to offer few or no smart phones. The major carriers are still leading options for many consumers, and we found they ranged widely in how well they satisfied their customers."
The full report will be in the January 2012 issue of Consumer Reports and at Consumer Reports Online.
This summary is very misleading. As mentioned below, there are significant differences in different areas. Go with what works best for you. On a national scale scale, it is true that AT&T consistently gets rated the worst, with Verizon being on top. However, if one looks at the actual ratings, the difference between Verizon at the top and AT&T at the bottom has always been, and continues to be, TINY. In reality, it is, as it has always been, a dead heat amongst all US carriers.
Umm, okay there was no information backing the claim as to why they are ranked the worst. ATT sucks, yes, but why post this and not have any quotes as to WHY they are ranked lowest? And who exactly were the consumers? Actually clients? And did each carrier have an equal amount of consumers asked?
Consumer reports is bullshit. Don't listen to these people. try a carrier in your area and see how it is. There are over 30,000 cities in the United States...you do the math
Just because it sucks for some people doesn't mean it sucks for everyone else. I have AT&T and have excellent service, also have great service with Verizon , only thing is I like AT&T
I've been with AT&T for over 10 years and have always been satisfied. Their cell service is great in my area with little to no dropped calls and I always have a strong signal, but then I live near and work in the 4th largest city in the US.
However, even when traveling to other cities I still had consistent service.
My Internet speeds are also good and consistent.
I realize that not everyone has good service, but for me I have no issues. Maybe it's because I live in Texas that AT&T doesn't suck.
