Samsung isn't worried about the rumored Apple 'iTV', according to AV Product Manager Chris Moseley who spoke with Pocket-Lint at a forum in Prague.
"We've not seen what they've done but what we can say is that they don't have 10,000 people in R&D in the vision category," he said. "They don't have the best scaling engine in the world and they don't have world renowned picture quality that has been awarded more than anyone else."
"TVs are ultimately about picture quality. Ultimately. How smart they are...great, but let's face it that's a secondary consideration. The ultimate is about picture quality and there is no way that anyone, new or old, can come along this year or next year and beat us on picture quality."
"So, from that perspective, it's not a great concern but it remains to be seen what they're going to come out with, if anything."
While picture quality is important to many, user experience is more important to most. In fact, many people don't care at all about quality. It's common to come across individuals who are stretching 4:3 video to fit widescreen televisions and have no idea that anything is wrong with the picture. This belief that the most megapixels, fastest processor, or highest contrast ratio makes your product the best choice is just wrong. If Apple is able to revolutionize the experience of watching television, it won't matter if Samsung has the ultimate picture quality.
I have APPLE TV ($99-cheap but i jailbreak it) and the SONY GOOGLE TV ($399 with blu ray player & MORE powerful processor and its stock experience) and I will choose the google tv player ANYDAY as it is MORE powerful and using HONEYCOMB that is more advance than iOS in apple tv.
I just heard they will update it to ICE CREAM SANDWHICH...
So, SAMSUNG (best hdtv hardware maker) with GOOGLE ICE CREAM SANDWHICH (best OS now than iOS 5) IN THE COMING MONTHS - iTV IS NOTHING...
I bought a Samsung LED 3D TV 40" mid range end of last year. The design hardware-wise is ok, but the smart tv software is anything but a pleasure to work with. Slow, cluttery and annoying to use! Not sure how / who came up with this crap, but it seems to have a mind of its own, reinstalling and updating apps that i have tried to delete several times.
The remedy so far has been to hook up a jailbroken apple tv2 and to have the tv start on that input channel!
of course they are not worried - whatever Apple will come out with - samsung will just copy it and then pretend that this is their invention design etc! :D
If Apple put a screen in their iTV that resembles the quality of the iMac, or if they're able to pull out a Retina iTV (not likely but still..) then Samsung will not feel so cocky anymore.. But as long the quality is good enough it doesn't have to win prizes or be the best on paper..
I prefer my LG TV rather than the Samsung TV with the same specs as mine when I bought it so I'm not jumping hi over Samsung's plastic technology..
Like Nokia wasnt worried when Apple starting making phone without Copy/Paste and look where they are now!!!! Like the whole mobile industry suffered from a simple iphone. Maybe the New Apple Television wont be the Ultimate TV, but it will sell!!! thats what Apple does. Sell!!!
So true. User experience will show the way. A proper balance of good picture quality and excellent user experience will knock out any superb picture quality Samsung can bring on.
